As a double bassist and chamber musician, I’ve always been fascinated by the intimate communication that happens in small ensembles. In Cuba, I started developing this idea, often pushing the boundaries of the repertoire available for the double bass. After moving to the Netherlands I felt the urge to expand this vision and give it a formal identity through Les Arcs Ensemble.
The project aims to highlight the ensemble’s lyrical and virtuosic potential by commissioning and performing new works from contemporary composers while fostering collaborations across genres such as classical, Afro-Cuban and Jazz, Danzon and bolero. The proposal includes creating programs that blend traditional repertoire with modern soundscapes, experimenting with classical repertoire formats and instrumentation, and combining canonical works with original arrangements and new compositions. Additionally, it seeks to showcase music by Latin American composers rarely heard in Dutch concert programs and to integrate Cuban musical elements into contemporary chamber-music settings.
