
Wimian Beatriz Hernández Reyes is a Cuban double bassist whose career bridges Latin America and Europe. Born in Havana, she began her musical education at the National School of Music, where she completed her intermediate professional studies in Double Bass Performance in 2016. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Arts of Cuba under the guidance of Alfredo Averoff, before moving to the Netherlands in 2021 to pursue a Master’s degree in Classical Double Bass Performance at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Quirijn van Regteren Altena, graduating in 2023. She has since continued her artistic development at the Davidsbundler Academy with Nicky Schwartz and at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona with Alberto Bochini.
Throughout her studies, Wimian has enriched her training through masterclasses with leading international double bass players, such as Olivier Thiery,Théotime Voisin, Léo Genet, Rick Stotijn, Janne Saksala, Zsolt Fejervari, Piotr Zimnik, etc
Her orchestral career began in Havana, where she was a member of the Lyceum de la Habana Orchestra from 2016 to 2021. With this ensemble she toured internationally, performing in Germany as part of the “Mozart y Mambo” project with Sarah Willis. She has also taken part in the Cuban European Youth Academy (CUE), performing at the Rheingau Musik Festival under conductors Thomas Hengelbrock and Enrico Onofri, and participated in the National Youth Orchestra of Luxembourg.

Since moving to Europe, she has performed with several distinguished ensembles, such as the Residentie Orkest, Het Balletorkest, Pynarello, Utopia Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orkest and Netherlands Kamerorkest,
She was an Academist of Residentie Orkest in Den Haag and with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in Amsterdam, further expanding her experience within the symphonic and operatic repertoire.
Her festival appearances include the Blaricum Music Festival, Stift Festival, Young Euro Classic, Lucerne Festival, and Rheingau Musik Festival, collaborating with renowned soloists such as Mischa Maisky, Rosanne Philippens, Alena Baeva, Barry Douglas, and Alban Gerhardt.
With a career rooted in her Cuban musical upbringing and shaped by her international studies, Wimian brings a unique artistic voice to her performances, combining stylistic versatility with a deep expressive sensibility.
